Seven easy outings within a short drive of Muzaffarnagar — Shukratal, Hastinapur, Piran Kaliyar, Shakumbhari Devi, Deoband, Haridwar and Rishikesh — with distances, what to see and a cab plan for each.
Muzaffarnagar sits in a part of western UP that is full of history, faith and river landscapes. You do not need to go far for a good day out. Here are seven places that make an easy trip by cab, with rough distances from the city.
1. Shukratal — about 30 km
On the banks of the Ganga, Shukratal is where, according to tradition, Sage Shukdev narrated the Bhagavat Purana to King Parikshit. Visitors come to see the ancient banyan tree, the Shukdev temple, a towering Hanuman idol and the riverside ghats. It is close enough for a half-day trip.
Cab plan: a short local round trip — the ₹2,200 local minimum covers it for any car.
2. Hastinapur — about 65 km
The Mahabharata capital of the Kauravas and Pandavas is today an important Jain pilgrimage town. See the Jambudweep complex, the Digambar Jain temples and the Pandeshwar temple. Nature lovers can visit parts of the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary along the Ganga.
Cab plan: the round trip is around 130 km, so the local minimum applies to most cars. The booking map shows the shortest road for your pickup.
3. Piran Kaliyar Sharif — about 55 km
Just past Roorkee, the dargah of Hazrat Makhdoom Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kaliyari draws visitors of every faith. It is busiest on Thursdays and during the annual Urs.
Cab plan: combine with Roorkee — see the Muzaffarnagar to Roorkee taxi page.
4. Shakumbhari Devi — about 100 km
In the Shivalik foothills north of Saharanpur, this Shaktipeeth temple is crowded during both Navratris. The last part of the road follows a seasonal riverbed — your driver will know when it is passable.
Cab plan: via Deoband and Saharanpur; start early during Navratri. See the Saharanpur route page.
5. Deoband — about 30 km
Home to Darul Uloom Deoband, one of the most famous Islamic seminaries in the world, and the Devi Kund temple. A quick visit on the way to Saharanpur.
6. Haridwar — about 90 km
Har Ki Pauri, the evening Ganga Aarti, Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi. Read our Haridwar day-trip guide for a full plan.
7. Rishikesh — about 115 km
Triveni Ghat aarti, the Ram Jhula area, riverside cafés and rafting at Shivpuri outside the monsoon months. Easy to combine with Haridwar on a long day — see the Rishikesh route page.

Tips for family day trips
- An Ertiga or Innova Crysta keeps a joint family together in one car — often cheaper than two small cars.
- Temples have dress and footwear rules; keep a bag for shoes.
- Carry cash for prasad and parking — many small stalls do not take UPI.
